A Heart Unyielded

December 16, 2018 by Some Chick

He’s our son. I love him enough to give up my own life for him. If I could transplant my heart into his own chest, I would. God knows I’ve tried to figure out a way to do that and have wondered aloud to the Lord if it would even help. Maybe my own heart is in need of a transplant as well.

It is as if his heart is charred, blackened, smoldering, a darkened shadow of what it once was, dying a slow spiritual death. I wonder does God ever do a spiritual transplant of one’s heart?

The Lord declares … “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a spirit within you, and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.” (Ezekiel 36:26-27)

I’ve not experienced walking alongside someone who has had their heart physically transplanted, but I have stood at the bedside of a child who only hours before had their chest opened and heart stopped while a surgeon and his skilled team work to reroute, rewire, and restart a physically defective heart. It is scary. It is physically debilitating. It is messed up. It is broken. And often necessary for life to continue.

So I ask myself again, Lord can’t you transplant our son’s spiritually defective heart? Why don’t You act, O Lord? Why don’t You reach in and stop his heart and FIX it? Then, You, O Lord, can restart it restored and returned to the way it once was, to the way You always intended it to be. I KNOW You can, O Lord. And I continue to ask this and pray a prayer something like this over and over, but all I hear is silence and the beating of my own heart.

The Genesis Gospel

November 30, 2018 by Some Chick

As believers, we are familiar with the word gospel, or good news. We hear it and speak of it frequently. However, you may be surprised to know that the gospel is first spelled out in the book of Genesis, chapter 5. The Holy Bible is not just a collection of 66 books, written by 40 authors, over the course of thousands of years. It is living and active, wholly holy, and bears the supernatural nature of The Author who guided the pen. This set of books is inexhaustible

A mind-blowing example of this supernatural message system can be found hidden in Genesis chapter 5. It requires the diligent student to look behind the names in Noah’s genealogy to find that our great God of Salvation had already laid out His plan of redemption for mankind in the earliest chapters of the Book of Genesis.

We must never skip mindlessly through the genealogies laid out for us in the Scriptures. They are invaluable for many obvious reasons and also for many reasons that still remain a mystery. Let’s take a closer look at the meaning of the Hebrew names recorded in the lineage of Adam through Noah revealed to us in Genesis 5.

The Lineage of Adam Through Noah

ADAM: Adam’s name means man

SETH: Seth’s name means appointed

ENOSH: Enosh’s name means mortal, miserable, frail

KENAN: (Some translate Cainan) means sorrow or dirge

MAHALALEL: Mahalalel’s name means Blessed El (God)

JARED: Jared’s name means shall come down

ENOCH: Enoch means teaching

METHUSELAH: Methuselah means his death shall bring

LAMECH: Lamech means lament or despair

NOAH: Noah means comfort or rest

The gospel message hidden in the earliest genealogy of Genesis 5 is fascinating and life giving!

Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (and) His death shall bring (the) despairing comfort (or rest).”

A Buzzing Bee

November 18, 2018 by Some Chick

Do you believe in signs? I do, definitely yes. Tonight I took our ATV for a solo ride. Today wasn’t good. Sure there were good moments, but the bad far outweighed and the realities of what is just feel so weighty and quite frankly sad. I drove to the top of our hill, turned off the engine, and tried to just be still. All I could hear were some cows in the distance, the wind and my thoughts. So very hard to be still but praise God for a perfect spot in which to try. What a beautiful evening to need a moment of solitude! I pulled out my iPhone and started reading where I last left off in my “daily” Bible reading plan that honestly isn’t daily. There it was:

“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear it’s sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8

And I sat and listened to the gentle breeze that, if I had special-ordered it, could not have been more perfect—not too strong yet just strong enough to keep the gnats at bay. So it is with the Spirit and faith. We trust and know He’s there. Here. In our midst. In our struggles. In our pain. In our heart cries. Like the wind. We can’t see Him or touch Him. But He’s there.

I did petition the Lord for a sign. I was thinking maybe a deer. Thinking of the ram He sent Abraham to be sacrificed in place of Isaac. I had made plenty of noise so seeing a deer would be unlikely if not impossible. Well He didn’t send a deer. Or a ram, which if He had might have sent me to my maker!
